Biden: United States "sent a message" to Russia on situation in Donbass

01:33, 23.08.2016

During a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the US Vice President Joseph Biden said that the United States ‘sent a message’ to Russia on the situation in Donbass, and called Ukraine for restraint.

This is reported by Reuters, with reference to the statement by the White House.

It is noted that the two leaders have expressed concern about the recent upsurge of fighting in the east of Ukraine.

‘The Vice-President reported that the United States has sent Russia a message that the world is watching, and stressed the need of de-escalating the situation. He has also urged Ukraine to exercise restraint,’ says the White House statement.

According to the Ukrainian president's press service, Poroshenko and Biden underscored the importance of continuing efforts, including in the framework of the "Norman format», so that Russia fulfill the Minsk Agreements, in particular, in the field of security. The message does not say anything on the implementation of the Minsk agreements by Ukraine. Obviously, the United States believe that Kiev has already fulfilled its part of the commitments.
