NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that Ukraine itself must decide whether it wants to join the alliance. 

‘It all depends on whether Ukraine wants to apply. If this happens, NATO members will have to decide whether it meets the necessary requirements,’ he said on the air of CNN. 

Stoltenberg also noted that ‘Ukraine aims at the formation of a defense sector that would meet NATO standards’. 

He also answered in the affirmative to the question of supporting the possible expansion of the alliance ‘by adopting a country’. As an example, he brought up Montenegro. 

Meanwhile, on the Ukrainian experience, ‘NATO daily learns to confront hybrid threats’, said Rose Gottemoeller, the deputy Secretary General of the alliance, on April 7. In other words, it uses Ukraine as a training ground.
