Head of UN mission for Human Rights in Donetsk

The head of the UN monitoring mission for Human Rights Fiona Fraser arrived in Donetsk where she met with the DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova.

The meeting was held behind closed doors.

As previously reported, Fiona Frazer arrived in Donetsk to check the conditions of Ukrainian prisoners.

As described earlier in the DPR Ombudsman Office, in such a way the DPR authorities were to show the international community that the country is open to dialogue and transparent in all matters, including the exchange of prisoners.

In addition, the observers from the United Nations were to personally talk with the prisoners. The Ombudsman recalled that the DPR remains ready to exchange prisoners according to the formula "all for all».

Later, the Head of the UN Monitoring Mission for Human Rights in Ukraine, Fiona Fraser, and the Commissioner for Human Rights in the DPR, Daria Morozova, arrived at the Western penal colony to check the conditions of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

The prison in Makeevka contains 31 Ukrainian prisoner of war. The human rights activists inspected the conditions of detention, as well as held a private talk with the prisoners.

After the inspection, the Head of the Monitoring Mission of the UN Human Rights in Ukraine had no claims to the conditions of detention of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the DPR prisons.

‘Ms. Fraser has no claims to the conditions of detention,’ said the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic.

She explained that the Ukrainian prisoners of war are held in cells in two or three persons. They have three meals a day and a daily four-hour walk. In addition, the prisoners handed over to the representative of the mission letters to their relatives.
