The situation in eastern Ukraine remains unpredictable. It was stated by Alexander Hug, the Deputy Chairman of the Special OSCE monitoring mission in Ukraine, in his comment  to the Deutsche Welle.

‘The situation is unpredictable, there is every indication that the fighting could resume at any time. Weapons are not withdrawn and the parties are too close to each other,’ he said.

At the same time, he expressed hope that, after the establishment of the regime of silence in the combat zone in Donbass on September 1, the parties to the conflict would continue to take measures to stabilize the situation.

The OSCE Representative once again stated the need to separating the warring parties. This would allow fixing the cease-fire for a long time.

Alexander Hug recalled that the decision on the cease-fire had already been taken last year. Then, at the beginning, observers also recorded only minor violations and the ceasefire lasted for more or less two months, but in November, the fighting in Donbass resumed.
