Fears of Ukrainian politicians on the new US president Donald Trump are entirely justified. 

It was stated in comments to the «Izvestia» by a senior scientist at the analytical center of The Atlantic Council in Washington, a former adviser to Yegor Gaidar, Professor Anders Aslund.

‘Trump is very dangerous for Ukraine. Fears of Ukrainian politicians on his account are quite justified. And now we can only rely on the Congress which fully supports Kiev. The Ukrainian diaspora in the US counts about 3 million people who live in the important states in the Midwest. At least, Trump’s policy in the Ukrainian direction will lead to serious conflict in his administration. It is clear that the views of the Republican do not coincide with the position of the candidate for the post of Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, the Defense Minister , James Mettis, and the head of the CIA, Mike Pompeo. In addition, Trump strongly disagrees on many issues with the Congress. Besides, I believe, within a year, his National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, who is not well respected in Washington, will leave the team,’ hopes the expert.

According to him, the new US president is going to shortly meet with the President of Russia and almost certainly offer the Russian leader a «Ukrainian deal». 

‘In my view, it is obvious that Donald Trump will try to offer a deal to Vladimir Putin on Ukraine, despite the position of the Congress. Trump wants to meet with Putin as soon as possible, and it is very important what topics will be on the agenda. Among the key topics, there  will surely be Syria, Islamic terrorism and Ukraine,’ predicts Aslund.
