Official China announced support of President Assad in connection with the US attack on Syria.

The PRC government respects the choice of the Syrian people, made in favor of President Bashar Assad, and considers it necessary to prevent the deterioration of the situation in Syria after the US attack. 

This was announced by the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chuning, at the briefing on Friday, April 7. 

‘China never interferes in the internal affairs of other countries. President of Syria Assad was elected by the Syrian people, we respect the choice of the people of Syria in choosing their own leader, in choosing their own path of development,’ said Hua Chuning. 

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman added that the Chinese government hopes to strengthen coordination of the international cooperation in connection with the worsening situation around Syria. 

‘Now, there is an urgent need to prevent a deterioration of the situation and it is necessary to support the process of political settlement in Syria,’ concluded the representative of the foreign policy department of the PRC.
