Moscow demanded access to Russians detained by Kiev

01:24, 28.09.2016

The Russian delegation at the OSCE Meeting on Human Rights in Warsaw demanded that Ukraine provide an unhindered consular access to all Russians detained in the country.

‘The blatant practice of enforced kidnappings, the arbitrary and prolonged, often secret, detention of civilians ... in Ukraine cause extreme concern. Civilians unlawfully detained by the Security Service of Ukraine, are subjected to torture, inhuman and degrading treatment, they are deprived of contact with family and access to medical and legal assistance,’ said Ivan Maltsev, a member of the Russian delegation, the representative of the Department of European Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

He recalled that in July of this year, there was issued a report on the subject by the human rights organizations Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

‘The Ukrainian authorities should establish and investigate all such incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice. We demand the unrestricted consular access to all detained Russian citizens,’ said Maltsev.
