Interior Ministry of Ukraine ordered to prepare to march to border between Donbass and Russia

03:04, 18.01.2017

The Ministry of Interior of Ukraine has set the border guards the task to prepare for ‘taking the state border under control’. This was stated by the Minister of Interior of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, during a meeting of the State Border Service, reports the official website of the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine.

According to him, in 2017 there ‘will be a task’ to enter the ‘internationally recognized border of Ukraine’ in Donbass, and then in the Crimea. This task will have to be performed by the Ukrainian policemen, guards and judicial authorities. ‘But the border guards will be the first to go,’ said the statement.

Avakov said that the mission would not be long, and the control of the state border would have to be restored within a week or two. The Interior Minister of Ukraine emphasized that the formulation of such a goal was not his ‘propaganda statement or some idea fix’, but the ‘reality which Ukraine will have to face’.

In early December, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Viktor Muzhenko said that Ukraine's army could occupy the territory of the Republics of Donbass, provided the Ukrainian-Russian border was closed, and the militias were not provided with weapons from Russia. He noted that an offensive of the army of Ukraine ‘can be a catalyst of aggression’.
