Nationalists in Ukraine recognized Christ a «separatists»

02:28, 27.08.2016

In the locality of Baranovka in the Zhitomir region, the Ukrainian nationalists have painted over the image of Jesus Christ, created by artists on the wall of a former road police post. The image was regarded as a manifestation of separatism.

Oleg Kovalsky, a deputy the Baranovsky district council, said that the decision to destroy the image on the wall had been made on August 22, at a round table with representatives of political parties, civil society organizations and activists. The artists had been proposed to destroy the image, but they had refused.

‘Then we decided that we would do it ourselves,’ said the deputy.

On August 23, the image of Jesus Christ was painted over with white paint.

‘We will root out any manifestations or hints of separatism or the «Russian world», whatever ranks or the party affiliation,’ commented Oleg Kovalsky on the event.

The destroyed image will be replaced with national flags.
