If the media reports on the removal of the US nuclear weapons from Turkey are true, these weapons should be placed in Ukraine. This initiative was voiced by Viktor Nebozhenko, a Kiev political analyst close to the party of Yulia Tymoshenko.

‘The media are full of rumors that the United States are urgently transferring nuclear weapons from unstable Turkey to Romania and other countries. Bucharest denies it.

While the Romanians think if they need nuclear weapons to deter a future conflict between Transnistria and Moldova, Kiev could afford to take the US tactical nuclear weapons. This would be an effective international mechanism for deterring the Russian aggression. It would work much better than the international sanctions against Russia,’ writes Nebozhenko in his blog.

According to him, the information about the deployment of Russian nuclear missiles in the Crimea should be another argument for such a decision.

‘Ukraine’s accepting the US nuclear weapons would automatically solve the matter of creating in our country the US (not NATO) military bases in response to the escalation of war and the aggression on the part of Russia. The temporary placement of the US tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine would be a compensation for the country’s erroneous rejection of nuclear weapons under the guarantee of the Budapest Treaty,’says Nebozhenko.
