The Ukrainian side opened a new border crossing point near Mayorsk, instead of the checkpoint «Zaytsevo» which had previously operated in the road corridor «Gorlovka -  Artyomovsk». It was reported by the press service of the Border Service of Ukraine.

The decision to move the checkpoint closer to the contact line was made «'o gain a better control over the movement of persons, vehicles and goods’. The Border Service said that it would also reduce the possibility of penetration to the Ukraine-controlled territory of ‘criminal elements and subversive groups’.

‘In addition, the new location of the checkpoint would take out of of the gray zone such localities as Zaytsevo, Mayorsk, Kurdyumovka, Odradivka, Nikolaevka and Kodyma, reduce social tension and eliminate the need for residents of these localities to cross the checkpoint,’ said the statement of the Border Service.

The active phase of the checkpoint’s transfer began about two weeks ago.
