The President of Ukraine Poroshenko met with the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton, and discussed with her the situation in Donbass, reported the website of the Ukrainian leader.

‘The President of Ukraine held the negotiations with the US presidential candidate. Petro Poroshenko informed Hillary Clinton about the situation in Donbass. The Ukrainian President emphasized that Ukraine is struggling for freedom and democratic values ​​that unite all civilized world,’ said the statement.

The sides also noted the effectiveness of the sanctions policy against Russia. The relations between Russia and the West deteriorated over the situation in Ukraine. The EU countries first imposed personal sanctions on individuals, then there were taken sectoral restrictive measures that affect entire sectors of the economy. In response, Russia restricted imports of food products from countries that had imposed sanctions against it. 

In addition, Poroshenko thanked Clinton for the constant and firm support for Ukraine.
