OSCE Representative in LPR: Weapons will not save OSCE patrols from new mines and shelling

01:37, 26.04.2017

Arming the staff of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Donbass, let alone introducing any other foreign military missions to the region, will not improve the safety of observers.

This was announced by the deputy head of the Lugansk team of the OSCE SMM, Dalhaug Arne.

‘At the moment, there are no references to the introduction of armed missions. It is important to understand that a larger number of observers or the ability to potentially arm observers, will not help to cope with the threats that we constantly face. As, for example, with mines, including, with the mine which exploded on Sunday (near the locality of Prishib),’ Arne said.
