During the hearing held in the Ukrainian parliament and dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Baby Yar tragedy, the Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said that the Ukrainians had been involved in the murders of Jews on the territory of Ukraine at that time.

‘I am not describing this horrible picture to shock someone. I am saying this because in the Baby Yar, tens of thousands of people, representatives of different nations were not killed only by the Nazis. They were destroyed by the Germans and their Ukrainian accomplices.

About half a million Jews were killed on the territory of modern Ukraine. Many supporters of crimes were Ukrainians. Among them were soldiers of the OUN, who tormented Jews, killed them and, in many cases, gave them up to the Germans. It is also true that there were more than 2,500 of the righteous. They were few sparks  burning brightly during the dark twilight. But most were silent. The relations between the Jewish and Ukrainian people are directed to the future, but we can not allow history, with its both terrible and good things, to be forgotten. The anti-Semites can not be rehabilitated and glorified. It can not be justified by any political interests,’ he emphasized.
