The Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Mikhail Saakashvili's governorship had been an insult to the residents of Odessa and the entire Ukrainian people, reports RIA «Novosti», referring to an interview with the head of state in the Oliver Stone’s film «Ukraine on fire».

‘It's just a slap, an insult to Odessa, and the entire Ukrainian people. He was not even given a work visa in the US. Universities, in which he tried to get employed, did not want to take him on, to give him a full-time job. However, he could serve as the governor of Odessa. Were there not honest, professional and able Ukrainians to perform the task?’ said Putin in an interview for the film, commenting on the appointment of Saakashvili.

On November 7, Saakashvili declared his intention to resign from the post of the governor of the Odessa region due to the reluctance of the authorities to fight corruption in Ukraine. Later, the ex-Governor announced the creation of a new movement.
