The Russian President Vladimir Putin called the murder of the Russian Ambassador in Turkey, Andrey Karlov, a provocation aimed at disrupting the normalization of the Russian-Turkish relations and the peace process in Syria.

‘The committed crime is certainly a provocation aimed at disrupting the normalization of the Russian-Turkish relations and the peace process in Syria, which is actively promoted by Russia, Turkey, Iran and other countries interested in settling the inter-Syrian conflict,’ said Putin at a a meeting with the Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, the Director of the Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, and the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin.

'The only response to this is increasing efforts to combat terrorism, and the criminals will feel it for themselves,’ said the Russian president. 

Andrey Karlov was attacked during the opening of a photo exhibition. The name of his killer, destroyed in a special operation, was Mevlut Mert Altyntash, he had worked in the police for 2.5 years.
