In the evening of May 11, the residents of Donetsk were already assembling at the Olimpiysky stadium for a festive concert in honor of the Republic Day, when they heard sounds resembling explosions. The latter were so strong that a blast wave swept through the city. By the direction of the sound, it was clear that the epicenter of the explosions was in the Kuibyshev district of the city, near the threshing floor of the Gorky mine. 

As a result of the preliminary investigation, it became known that the DPRair defense had been triggered and shot down an «Uragan" MLRS projectile in the sky. It had been launched from the west, and but for the well-coordinated and precise work of the DPR air defense, it could have landed in the center of Donetsk. 

A fragment of the anti-aircraft weapons was discovered by one of the city residents in his garden in the Kuibyshev district, immediately after the «Uragan" projectile had been shot down.
