Amsterdam Court decided to return Scythian gold collection to Ukraine

02:38, 15.12.2016

The Amsterdam Court decided to return the collection of Scythian gold, brought from the Crimean museums, to Ukraine. It is noted that the Crimean museums intend to appeal the decision of the court.

‘The decision to transfer it to Ukraine enters into force after the proceedings in the appeal court. The appeal will be filed,’ said the lawyer Anastasia Sivitskaya, representing the interests of the Crimea in the court.

However, the Ukrainian party must pay the Archaeological Museum Allard Pierson 111,000 euros to cover the expenses on the storage of Scythian gold from the Crimea. It was reported by Dutch journalists who had studied the verdict of the court in Amsterdam.

The collection of Scythian gold, numbering about two thousand artifacts, was brought from the Crimea Museums in Amsterdam, to the exhibition «Crimea: the gold and the secrets of the Black Sea», in February 2014. Since then, Russia and Ukraine have not been able to solve the dispute whom the artifacts should be returned.

In November 2014, the Crimean museum filed a lawsuit in the Amsterdam court demanding the return of Scythian gold.
