The Hill: Poroshenko hired lobbyists in US to make friends with Trump

The Ukrainian authorities have hired a US lobbying firm BGR Group in order to strengthen their relations with the United States under President Trump, writes The Hill.

The company engaged in public relations and lobbying mostly the Republicans, signed a contract with Kiev on December 23.

According to the publication, the lobbyists will support and help relations between the key Ukrainian politicians and the US officials, journalists, non-governmental organizations and so on. The contract with BGR Group is estimated at $600,000 per year.

This move was made against the background of Kiev’s tense relations with Moscow. While the Obama administration condemned the Russian intervention in the Ukrainian conflict, Donald Trump is considered to be more benevolent to the Kremlin. The BGR Group will be engaged in the development and implementation of the strategy in the areas of business development and government relations, as well as strengthening relations between the US and Ukraine, and the involvement of the US entrepreneurs in investing in the country's economy.

The Hill reminds that in 2015, Kiev hired the PR firm APCO Worldwide for the then Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk, but the contract was terminated after the current head of government taking office. The embassy of Ukraine to the USA did not respond to a request of The Hill to comment on the contract with the BGR Group.
