The Ukrainian side unilaterally interrupted verification of prisoners

The Ukrainian side unilaterally interrupted the process of verification of prisoners, which was carried out by the representatives of the DPR. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic, Daria Morozova.

‘The Ukrainian side has disrupted the verification for the process of exchanging prisoners. It was agreed in Minsk that under the verification procedure, a group of mothers and wives of detained persons would be able to interview not only citizens who are kept in detention centers but also those who are conditionally at large. This is 159 people, but Kiev's representatives refused a survey of these people and said they would not let them communicate, thus, the Ukrainian side unilaterally completes the process of the detained persons verification,’ she said.

According to her, the mothers and wives of the prisoners returned from the territory of Ukraine ahead of schedule, although they were to stay on the Ukrainian side until May 15.

‘We planned to discuss the exchange date on May 15, but the process has stopped again, I have already sent a letter to the coordinator of the subgroup, Tony Frish, we will decide in Minsk what to do next ... I can conclude that Ukraine just do not need these unfortunate Ukrainian soldiers (prisoners held in the territory of the DPR),’ said the Ombudsman.
