Church, Sunday school and kindergarten destroyed in Debaltsevo

Yesterday, the shelling in Debaltsevo damaged the Alexander Nevsky church, according to the website of the Gorlovsky and Slavyansky Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

‘On December 23, at 14:55, on the city of Debaltsevo, there were launched, according to preliminary data, 10 shells from the frontline. One of them hit the territory of the Alexander Nevsky church. There was used artillery of not less than 150mm caliber, which is prohibited by the Minsk Agreements,’ the report says.

It also says that there was significantly damaged the building of the church’s Sunday school, with one wall completely destroyed and the rest of them seriously damaged.

‘Fortunately, there were no children in the building at that time. In the church, windows are broken, the facade is riddled with shrapnel and the metal door is pierced. There is also damaged a new dome standing on the ground. There are no human casualties. The shelling also hit a school, a kindergarten and residential buildings. The data on the dead and injured is not available yet,’ informs the diocese.
