Today, in Kiev unknown assailants made an attempt to commit arson in the church named in honor of St. Peter Mogila’s, belonging to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Four bottles with petrol were thrown at the church, but they bounced off the walls of the wooden church.

‘Only a miracle, by the patronage of Blessed Virgin, the church has remained intact. The bottles did not break and flew off the walls,’ said the rector, Archpriest John Tronko.

According to the rector, the arsonists are interested in the expensive land on which the church is located.

‘For six months the parish has suffered from the aggressive actions of unknown investors who intend to build a high-rise building on the site of the church,’ said Archpriest John Tronko.

This is not the first arson of the church. Less than a week ago, on the night of January 5 this year, unknown persons set fire to the outside north wall of the chancel of the church. Then the facade of the church burned, but the fire did not penetrate the building.

‘The arson was committed at about 2 am in the most inconspicuous spot. Probably, flammable substances were used as a strong smell of burning gasoline felt at the site,’ said then the rector of the church.
