The Ministry «on the temporarily occupied territories and internally displaced persons» of Ukraine reported that ‘due to non-payment by the LPR for the supplied water, over half a million residents may be deprived of water supply’.

‘This situation is due to a systematic uncollected payments for the amount of water consumed on the uncontrolled territory in recent years. As a result, the debt of the water-supply enterprise «Popasnjansky District Vodokanal» for electricity has exceeded 121 million UAH and the company faces bankruptcy. The consequence of this could be a complete cessation of water supply in the region, on the territories both uncontrolled and controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, which will lead to a humanitarian and environmental disaster,’ says the statement of the Ministry.

The Ministry stated that ‘Ukraine is taking all possible measures to prevent the development of the situation by such a scenario’.
