01:37, 17.03.2017

The decision of the Kiev authorities to introduce a full blockade of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics has not met the understanding of the leading Western media.

The edition of Süddeutsche Zeitung noted that the German government ‘in an unprecedented form’ had warned the Ukrainian authorities against the disintegration of the country.

The representative of the Foreign Ministry of Germany, Martin Schaefer said that ‘the ongoing tendencies towards a split in Ukraine cause serious concern’. He noted that the decision on the blockade strengthened the gap between Donbass and Ukraine.

The Associated Press called Poroshenko's decision a ‘sharp turn’, noting that just the day before he had sharply opposed the blockade organized by the radicals.

The Swiss edition of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung noted the growing influence of the Nazis in Ukraine.

‘Kiev should be careful not to get into the nationalistic fairway. <...> The most important thing is to concentrate on their own internal tasks, that is not to let the reforms stall,’ the article says.

‘The decision to block all trade, except for the humanitarian one, has dealt a new blow to the already complicated Minsk settlement,’ says the New York Times article.
