A sudden inspection of combat readiness began in three military districts of the Russian Federation - South, West and Central.

Large-scale military exercises began in Russia. Units of the Southern, Western and Central military districts, as well as the Northern Fleet, the Military Space Forces and the Airborne troops, were alerted on the orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

As Sergei Shoigu, the Defense Minister, General of the Army, specified the maneuvers had begun in the framework of a sudden inspection of combat readiness and would last until 31 August.
