Representatives of WikiLeaks claimed that scandal with the publication of the documents of the Mossack Fonseca, indicating the involvement of the world leaders in illegal offshore schemes, was sponsored by the USA.

According to the WikiLeaks portal, publication of these data is the information attack aimed at Russia and personally at Vladimir Putin.

The WikiLeaks portal, which publishes the most high-profile international exposures, said in his microblog on Twitter, that the scandal, which erupted around the publication of documents of the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca with data on illegal offshore, was organised by the American Centre for Research on corruption and organised crime (OCCRP) and sponsored by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Soros Fund.

‘#PanamaPapers Putin attack was produced by OCCRP which targets Russia & former USSR and was funded by USAID & Soros,’ says the Wikileaks post.

Moreover, the debunkers state that the Panama scandal funding was not even indirect, it was carried out directly by the US government. This fact can not but affect the reputation of the White House.

‘The US OCCRP can do good work, but for the US govt to directly fund the #PanamaPapers attack on Putin seriously undermines its integrity,’ says another Wikileaks post in Twitter.

The OCCRP, as indicated on the website of the organisation, is also the official name of the Association of journalism (the Journalism Development Network), registered in the US state of Maryland. The OCCRP structure includes a number of organisations from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The OCCRP project received and continues to receive support in the form of grants from the United Nations Democracy Fund, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Institute "Open Society» (the Open Society Foundations).

Panamanian documents authenticity

The lawyer Ramon Fonseca, a partner of the Mossack Fonseca, accused, in his turn, the authors of the publication of Panamian documents of distortion of facts. The authors of the investigation on the use of offshore companies misinterpreted the documents which had been stolen by them during a hacker attack.

‘They (the emails) were taken out of context,’ said Ramon Fonseca.

Earlier Ramon Fonseca said that the documents had not been provided to the media by company's employees; they had been stolen during a hacker attack, upon which he sent a complaint to the prosecutor of Panama, reporting a theft. The Mossack Fonseca representative also said that his company had never been involved in the destruction of any financial instruments, had not helped to evade taxes or launder money and had always acted within the law.

The beginning

The world-class scandal erupted after the publication of documents relating to the law firm Mossack Fonseca. According to the newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, they testify to the involvement of a number of world leaders and their entourage in the offshore financial schemes.

So far the authenticity of the so-called Panamanian papers has not been officially confirmed. The company Mossack Fonseca itself has already stated that they refuse to confirm their authenticity and called the actions of journalists an offence.

An interesting fact is that journalists have published about 11.5 million documents that reveal the relation of world stars and leading politicians to shadow operations of laundering funds in Panama. Among the hundreds of names there appears indirectly that of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, but in the documents revealed his name is not mentioned.
