Statement of Chief of Staff of LPR People’s Militia, Colonel Oleg Anaschenko, of October 25, 2016

02:34, 26.10.2016

The Special services of Ukraine continue to use in their work cynical, cruel and inhuman methods against the civilian population of Donbass.

Another evidence of it is the events that occurred to the commander of a separate unit of the People's Militia, Lieutenant Colonel Igor Sidorenko, against whose close relatives employees of the Ukrainian secret services used illegal actions that threaten their lives and health.

On October 23, 2016, Lieutenant Colonel Sidorenko’s mother, Valentina Bezkorovaynaya and her husband, Alexey Bezkorovayny, left for the territory of Ukraine to receive their pensions.

On October 24, 2016, at about 3 pm, the commander received a phone call from his mother's phone. His mother told him that she was in the locality of Melovoye, the Lugansk region, and that somebody wanted to talk to him, handing then the phone to an unknown person.

A male voice told the commander of the unit that his mother and stepfather were detained, and he would be able to see them alive, if he agreed to co-operate and share with the Ukrainian side the required information, namely, data on the structure of units and personnel data of the LPR People’s Militia personnel. In addition, for providing the information and assistance to the Ukrainian special services he was promised a monetary reward. To pass the information, representatives of the Ukrainian special services gave Lieutenant Colonel Sidorenko an email address.

By psychological pressure on the LPR People’s Militia soldier, the Ukrainian special services were trying to force him to give away to them the information constituting a state secret.

However, Colonel Sidorenko refused to commit an offense defined as «treason» under Art. 335 of the Criminal Code of the LPR, and his family is still held hostage by the Ukrainian law enforcers.

We call on the international community, international human rights organizations, as well as the OSCE and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to influence the Kiev authorities on the issue of liberation of the illegally detained citizens of the LPR.
