The DPR should expand the integration with Russia in the economic plane. This was stated by the Head of the Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, in his annual address to the DPR People’s Council.

‘Our task in the near future is to strengthen the economic integration with Russia. At the same time, we must renew old economic ties as well. The potential of our country in this area is huge,’ said the Head of the DPR.

However, he emphasized that it is not only economy that is important important, but ‘there should be a cultural integration as well’. 

‘The potential in this area is huge. The process is already underway. I am confident that 2017 will bring great results,’ said Zakharchenko.

The Head of the DPR called priority sectors which the authorities of the Republic intend to develop in 2017.

‘First of all, it is necessary to maintain our country's traditional heavy industries: coal mining, machine building and metallurgy. But it is also necessary to develop new directions,’ Zakharchenko said.

In particular, according to the Head of the Republic, the DPR is actively developing agriculture. 

‘We are launching new agricultural enterprises. In the long term, agriculture can become a sector that can meet 100% of the needs of the country,’ said Zakharchenko.

He stressed that in this regard, there is a need to stimulate agricultural producers and create enabling work environments.
