On coming to Donbass, an American could not believe his eyes: They are impudently lying to us

63-year-old Stephen Ebert is an American, but, despite this, he is opened the «Russian world». The fact is that Stephen studied Russian language in college (‘A very expensive college,’ he recalls with a smile), and therefore sympathizes with the inhabitants of the post-Soviet space. After the next round of violent Russophobic propaganda that began in the United States (according to the American, this became especially evident during the Sochi Olympics), he decided not to be led on by the local press and make up his own opinion, owing to his specialization that allows it. Since then, he has written articles in which he tries to explain to the Americans the position of Russia, the LDPR and the whole «Russian world». Although, as he jokes, he could have made a good career in the CIA as a Slavic expert.

To really understand the situation, Ebert visits Russia, and has recently visited the DPR where he gave an extensive interview for the local media. As the political scientist admits, at first he could not believe his eyes as he saw not the «bandits» and separatists, but worthy people, patriots who defend their land and their relatives from, one can say without exaggeration, the deadly danger that nationalism brings. Which, of course, is radically different from the picture that Washington draws.

However, according to Ebert, he had previously suspected that it was not worthwhile to trust the US official version. According to the American, he began to notice inconsistencies while still in college, when they were told about the Vietnam War. After a trip to the DPR, it became obvious that Washington was just as lying about what is happening in Donbass.

As Ebert admits, every year his attitude to the «liberal-democratic» policy of his country becomes worse and worse.

‘On the one hand, the older I get, the more I get to the right. On the other hand, I'm not the last fool to believe what the US government tells us,’ the expert says about his political views.

‘In the US, they say that we care very much about the integrity of Ukraine. But if it is civilians that are killed there?’.

Washington takes the position that is profitable to it, the political scientist is sure.

At the same time, Ebert drew attention to a very curious fact - the United States and Donbass actually have much more in common than the White House recognizes. After all, in fact, America emerged in the same «separatist» way, through the separation from England. And what's wrong with that?

‘The self-determination is in our genes,’ the political scientist shrugs.

Of course, England struggled to get America back. Ebert compared the British punitive units that burned the then Washington, with the current ATO.

‘But we fought and won, and none of the Americans regret it,’ argues Ebert.

Thus, the US turned from the colony into a large, quite wealthy country. Maybe, the DPR and LPR are facing the same destiny?
