Ukraine has to create its own production base of ammunition of all calibers, as the country cannot yet count on the West's assistance.
It was announced by Aleksandr Turchinov, the National Security and Defense Council Secretary, at a meeting on the organisation of the production of ammunition.
'The military-technical cooperation with our strategic partners to obtain lethal weapons is artificially blocked, and we again have to rely only on ourselves,’ he said.
According to Turchinov, during the first two years of the war in Donbass, the Ukrainian armed forces used mostly reserves "inherited" from the Soviet Army.
‘However, these reserves are not limitless, much of them has been mindlessly recycled or sold in the years when no one thought we would have to fight a war,’ said the Secretary of the National Security Council.
On total, Turchinov intends to involve 800 Ukrainian plants into the weapons modernisation program.
