Donetsk residents raise districts destroyed by Kiev from ruins

Last night, explosions were heard again in the Donetsk People's Republic. No human casualties were reported, but residential and industrial buildings were damaged again in the localities of the Republic.

There is just a few hundred meters from a one-story area on the outskirts of Donetsk to the front line; these blocks come under fire much more often than the others. They have been shelled for two years, with short interruptions. When it seems that everything is over, the front-line streets look empty. Some people have left and never returned.

Repair crews are formed in the centers of employment. Now, it is not easy to find a job here. It is necessary to rebuild roofs and install windows in thousands of destroyed houses. The local authorities say that this problem is for years. Construction materials are a humanitarian aid from Russia. In the first place, they are used to restore the homes of veterans of the war.

Many residents are already accustomed to bombardments and no longer hide in basements. The military and civilian authorities of the Republic say that attacks from the Ukrainian side have become more intense, with the fire opened from heavy weapons which, according to the Minsk Agreements, should have been withdrawn from the contact line long ago.

'Now, when people have returned, when almost all the infrastructure works, these attacks are the most frightening. We are very much afraid of new victims,' says Ivan Prikhodko, the head of the Kuibyshevsky district of Donetsk.

On the outskirts of the city, there was erected a monument to residents of the Kuibyshevsky district, who died under fire that has never ceased. The mournful list consists of 212 names.
