Ukraine plans to confiscate coal from Donbass

The head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, Nasalik, said that he had asked the fiscal service and customs to confiscate coal from the uncontrolled regions of Donbass, where it is imported illegally. 

‘We have already taken a cardinal step of the ministry and sent a request to the state fiscal service and to the energy customs office to confiscate coal products when these products come to the territory of Ukraine from the area of the CADLR (certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions),’ the Minister said during the «Hour of Questions to the Government: in the Rada. 

Yesterday, Alexey Taicher, the General Director of the Federal Freight Company (FFC, subsidiary of Russian Railways), said that the company would complete the withdrawal of the carriages from the territory of Ukraine within two weeks and finish operations in the country. 

Earlier, the President of Ukraine Poroshenko put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine regarding a number of Russian companies exporting coal of anthracite brand. 

On February 14, Nasalik publicly announced that Ukraine would not buy Russian coal. On April 12, emergency measures to the energy sector, first introduced on February 17, were extended indefinitely at a meeting of the Ukrainian government. At the same time, Russia remains the main supplier of coal to Ukraine.
