Ukraine to prohibit even optional teaching of Russian

Ukraine should not be surprised that it is called a fascist state in the world, as the country has taken discriminatory solutions in the field of languages.

It was announced by Ruslan Bortnik, the Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, at a press conference in Kiev, during the discussion of the decision of the Verkhovnaya Rada to introduce mandatory quotas for the sound of the Ukrainian language on air.

'I would not raise this issue, if I were not impressed with the decision of the head of the Obukhov regional administration, who issued a decree forbidding the teaching of Russian language, even optionally, in the region. What does this official have to do with the language regulation, how can he prohibit anything? I have huge questions. In a normal country, such an official would have instantly lost his position and become a marginal disrespected politician. In Ukraine, though, there isn't any kind of public reaction. Such people form a negative image of anti-democratic Ukraine in the world. So, there is no point in getting offended if people speak about fascism in Ukraine. This is a typical example of how such an image is formed,' pointed out the expert.
