Collapse of the energy industry in Ukraine in 7 years

22:11, 20.08.2016

Within 7 years Ukraine is facing the collapse of the energy industry as the country has no funds to extend the life of nuclear power plants.

It was stated at a press conference in Kiev by Mikhail Umanets, an advisor to the General Director of the National Scientific Center "Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology» and the ex-director of the Chernobyl nuclear plant (1978-1992), representing a group of developers of the program of the nuclear industry reforming in Ukraine.

‘As a result of incompetent governing the country, the industry and the «Energoatom», nothing has been done to prepare for the replacement of expiring units. 7.5 years remains to solve this problem. It will cost from 3 to 5 billion dollars. Where to get the money?

However, even if we extend the life of the units and do not start replacing on schedule expiring units, we are anyway facing the collapse of both the nuclear energy and the electric power industry as a whole.

Our nuclear energy is already almost non-existent, about 80% of the capacities there are absolutely worn out. And it is the nuclear energy that holds the country's security, economic and social. Without it, it is slavery,’ warns the expert.
