The Head of the People's Republic of Donetsk, Alexander Zakharchenko said that he referred to the election of Donald Trump the US president with ‘cautious optimism’.

‘I realize that after moving into the White House, Trump will be a part of the American political system. And it is not the fact that he will be able to resist it, while «inside», as he did before, being «outside». So, I feel, say, cautiously optimistic,’ said Zakharchenko.

The Head of the DPR emphasized that the indicator of Trump’s policy in relation to the Republic can be a change of attitude towards the issue of conflict in Donbass.

‘The litmus test for us will be the Ukrainian policy of Trump’s Washington. If Trump ... makes Ukraine go for a direct dialogue with us as a part of the settlement of the conflict, then we can say that we have a positive attitude to Trump;s victory in the election. As for now, we’d better wait,’ said the leader of the DPR.
