In Ukraine, forest burning in Chernobyl zone

On the Ukrainian territory of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone wildfires are raging. The press center of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations (SSES) reports that in the area of the abandoned village Buryakovka 15 hectares of forest litter and shrubs are burning.

At the same time, it is noted that there is no threat to the facilities located on the territory of the exclusion zone.

The SSES fire-rescue units and fire aviation, as well as forestry workers of the «Chernobyl Pushcha» are brought to extinguish the fire.

‘In total, there are operating 20 units of equipment and 81 people, including 12 pieces of equipment and 51 men of the personnel, a MI-8 helicopter with a drain device and 3 planes AN-32P, provided by the SSES,’ reported the press centre.

According to the rescuers, the background radiation in the exclusion zone is in the normal range of the average 0.3-0.4 mSv / h (the safe level of radioactivity is up to 0.5 microsieverts per hour).
