The list of crimes of the Ukrainian military and members of the territorial volunteer battalions added the sexual abuse of prisoners. Among the victims there are disabled people. Almost all people subjected to sexual violence are men. None of them was a member of the DPR Armed Forces.

The United Nations has documented sexual violence by the Ukrainian military in the ATO area. According to the UN data, prisoners were harshly tortured, often threatened with sexual violence, and there are fairly well-known and confirmed cases of this violence committed. It is reported by the Information Center on Human Rights, referring to the 14th report of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

Ivan Simonovic, the Assistant of the UN Secretary General for Human Rights, also noted that ‘in some areas of Ukraine the neglect of human rights by the Ukrainian authorities has taken root and become systemic’.

The delegation of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture worked in Ukraine in late May, but the inspection was forced to stop before the appointed time. THE Ukrainian authorities simply refused to allow the UN to places where people illegally detained by the SBU are allegedly kept.
