Pentagon sees no signs of preparing Russian invasion in Ukraine

01:47, 23.08.2016

The Pentagon does not observe in the Crimea and on the Ukrainian border the movement of Russian troops, which could be qualified as signs of preparation for an invasion in Ukraine.

It was stated by Geoff Davis, the representative of the US Defense Ministry, informs AFP.

"I think we are witnessing the movement (of the Russian military - Ed.), which is associated with the forthcoming exercises; we do not see any massive build-up of forces, which is hinted at (by the of Ukrainian authorities - Ed.),’ said Davis, noting that the United States continue to closely monitor the situation.

At the same time, the US Defense Ministry said they did not see the ‘unicorn’ which some observed , namely ‘the idea that a massive short-term build-up or movement of troops is to happen’.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine Petr Poroshenko said that Russia was preparing a full-scale invasion in Ukraine ‘in all directions’.

‘The probability of an escalation of the conflict is still considerable. We absolutely do not exclude a full-scale Russian invasion in all directions. We are ready to repel the enemy …' said Poroshenko.
