15:16, 20.07.2016

Polish parliament approved the first reading of the resolution on recognition of the Volyn massacre events, the mass killings of Poles by Ukrainian nationalists in 1943-45, as the genocide. It is reported by the "Polish Radio".

The first reading of the document was approved by two commissions of the Sejm, of the liaison with Poles abroad and of the culture and means of communication.

'The first reading of the resolution adopted by the commissions states that in July 1943, the wave of crimes committed by the OUN, UPA and the SS Galicia came to the culmination. As a result of the genocide in 1943-45, there were killed more than a hundred thousand citizens of the Rzeczpospolita,' says the statement.

However, the authors decided to "sweeten" the decree and added a line of solidarity with Ukraine which is now 'fighting against an external aggressor'.
