The leaders of the DPR and LPR have commented on the decree of President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, by which the head of the state decided to temporarily recognize in the Russian Federation documents issued to residents of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine.

‘If Motherland loudly and bravely supports our fight, then our struggle is just. Then our sacrifices are not in vain. Then our hopes are justified,’ said the Head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko.

The leader of the Lugansk People's Republic, Igor Plotnitsky called the decree of the Russian president fenomenal.

‘This is another proof of the fact that the Republic has become a state. Today, the Republic has made another step closer to the international recognition of our sovereignty,’ he said.

Putin signed a decree to recognize in Russia documents issued to Ukrainian citizens and stateless persons permanently residing in the territories of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on February 18. On the same day the order came into force. These measures are temporary and will operate up to a political settlement of the situation in these regions.

The decree does not specify to which areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions it applies. The Republic of Donbass are not mentioned in it either.
