Largest ever DDos attack in US

02:21, 23.10.2016

As a result of massive hacker attacks on the company Dyn, providing network services and directing traffic to online services, the Internet services Twitter, Spotify, Airbnb and Netflix were not available in some parts of the United States and Europe.

According to the BBC, there were made two DDoS-attacks. The first led to disruptions in service for two hours, but was repelled. It was followed by another attack which caused new outages.

The hacker attacks affected the social network Twitter, the Spotify's music service, the real estate reservation Airbnb, as well as the news sites The Verge and Reddit. Another attack was made on the largest online store Amazon.

The Dyn believes that the attacks on the Amazon and on their company are associated.

In total, the attacks affected users in Texas and the east coast of the United States, residents of California and the Midwest. Interruptions in Twitter and the Netflix online movie theater were observed in Europe. Users around the world could not get to the sites of the world's largest media and there were faults in the PayPal service.

The US Department of Homeland Security announced the initiation of an investigation to find out ‘all possible causes’ of what had happened.

It is noted that the hackers have begun to use new methods, infecting with viruses different devices which become part of the «bots» army participating in the attack. Previously, hackers made DDoS-attacks on individual sites rather than large companies servers like the Dyn, since such an attack attack has to be several times as massive.
