Verkhovnaya Rada passed a law on intention to join NATO

Ukraine's accession to NATO is called the priority task of the country's foreign policy. Corresponding amendments were adopted by the Verkhovnaya Rada. 

Now this main task of state importance is spelled out in the law «On the Basics of Domestic and Foreign Policy». 276 parliamentarians voted for the changes, with required 226 votes for adoption. 

The alliance was founded in 1949. It was tasked with defending Europe from the influence of the USSR. Today, NATO includes 29 countries.
