Over 80 French MPs preparing lifting of sanctions against Russia

Economical opinion - 29.04.16 02:23

A group of French MPs has filed an appeal to the country's President Francois Hollande with the requirement to lift the sanctions against Russia.

The authors of the appeal are mostly from the centre-right opposition to Sarkozy’s Republican party. They have entered in the Parliament a resolution which calls on Hollande to lift sanctions against Russia.

The movement was created on the initiative of Thierry Mariani. MPs emphasise the high cost of Russian counter-sanctions on French farmers and the loss of French arms sales to Russia.

The appeal says that the sanctions had turned out to be ‘ineffective’ to change the situation in Ukraine, and that France should cooperate with Russia to defeat the ISIS jihadists.

The resolution will be debated in the Parliament on April 28.
